Default Dana Point to O-Side 02/21

Well....
I'm not usually one for riding on Sundays, but I figured an exception could be made today given that it will be another 2 weeks before I can ride again (Hahn in Havasu next weekend). So Jaxtrip and I set a meet time for 8:30 down in Dana point, and by 9:15 we point the skis south with O-Side as the destination.

We started off at a pretty good clip, keeping the coast about a mile or so off our port side in order to avoid the huge kelp beds down by San Onofre. By the time we hit the power plants, the seas started picking up strength, producing a washing machine effect with 5ft swells @ roughly 3 seconds apart. Speed was reduced for safety reasons, but we were still set on making it down to O-Side. Forty five minutes later we come into the harbor mouth and take time to get some water, clear the goggles, and prepare for the return trip home. For those that make the run to O-Side this time of year, you know it goes without saying that the return trip doesn't get any better!! And it didn't... ;-)

So back out into what has now turned into 7-10ft swells. Dark clouds, then rain, greeted us for the return trip home. Seemed like we were out of the water as much as we were in it coming home, going pretty much vertical at times when hitting the occasional big walls of water. By 11:40 we finally rolled into the flat water stretch of Dana Point and kicked the skis up to WOT for the last couple of miles.

Many thanks to my wingman, was a good workout today. Some of the best training water I have seen in months ;-)

Good day today! Although rough ocean it was awesome to experience as I haven't riden in conditions like that before.

It was reassuring to be riding with Russell today as conditions were so challenging, we stayed within a couple hundred feet of each other for most of the ride, another comforting measure, thanks Russ!

Another great day with an awesome ride partner. Looking forward to the next one!
